Baete Bags Big Ten Weekly Honor


Lincoln – Nebraska Kirsten baete won the Big Ten Women’s Golfer of the Week award when the conference announced its weekly accolades on Wednesday, October 27.

Baete, a senior to Beatrice, Neb., Shot a career-best 206 (-10) en route to the individual title at White Sands Intercollegiate in Paradise Island, Bahamas (October 22-24). Baete led the tournament from start to finish after shooting back-to-back 67 (-5) rounds Friday and Saturday before closing with an even par 72 on Sunday at the 6,415-yard Ocean Club route.

Baete’s performance saw him win his first career college title, while also propelling Nebraska to a second team in a field that included regional NCAA 2021 entrants Campbell, Mercer and hosts Miami.

She closed the season as the only Nebraska golfer to make the team’s 15 competitive rounds in the lineup, while her 73.47 stroke average was an improvement of nearly three strokes per round from spring 2021. , when she helped Nebraska to a Big Ten finish and a trip to the NCAA Columbus Regional.

Baete is the fourth Husker this fall to be named Big Ten golfer of the week, joining Lindsey Thiele and Nicole hansen (September 22) and Michaela vavrova (October 6).
