DICK’S Sporting Goods Champions National Day of Girls and Women in Sport


This inaugural event will be a celebration of community and the power of women’s sport. Participants are encouraged to participate by running, walking, biking, swimming or any other activity of their choice. The virtual 5K will take place from February 1stFebruary 28as the 50-Mile Challenge begins February 1st and ends June 23 – the 50and Anniversary of Title IX.

At February 2, female athletes are also encouraged to participate in the National Girls and Women in Sports Day #StrongerWithSports social challenge and show the strength that girls and women play by participating in sports. professional rugby player Ilona Mahergymnast Laurie Hernandez and sprint Sydney McLaughlin are part of the group of women sports advocates who support the challenge. Female athletes are encouraged to post a sports photo on Instagram or Twitter when they were younger and describe how sports have had a positive impact on their lives.

DICK’S has highlighted its commitment to female athletes over the past few years, standing up for women and highlighting the importance that youth sports play in girls’ lives. Recent successes include:

  • Announced in 2021, DICK’S is the Official Sporting Goods Retail Partner of the WNBA. Throughout this multi-year partnership, the company will work with the league to implement initiatives designed to inspire athletes of all ages, such as the November It’s his shot collaborative event with Nike which featured appearances by WNBA legends Lisa Leslie and Semone Auguste. The company is also focused on increasing the visibility of WNBA teams and players nationally, in part through its expanded offering of WNBA and women’s basketball products in stores and online.
  • Continuing the commitment made by The DICK’S Sporting Goods Foundation in 2021 to donate 100,000 DSG branded sports bras to underfunded female athletes across the country. The Foundation joins forces with good sports – a non-profit organization that provides equipment, clothing and sports shoes to young athletes in need – to distribute the sports bras.
  • The company’s first girl power panel featuring 15 girls aged 13-17 met virtually throughout 2021 and provided insight and feedback on product assortment, website assets and in-store team sports offerings for volleyball, lacrosse and softball. The panel also shared recommended nonprofits to receive sports bras and products selected for the first-ever Girl Power Panel Favorites on dicks.com which included panelists’ top picks for practice, school and more. Starting on February 1stinterested young women can apply for five open spots on the panel by completing the online application.
