Smart India should not be the sole responsibility of the government. It is the new entrepreneurs with innovative ideas that can improve the digitization process much faster. Anker was founded by Steven Yang in 2011 with the simple mission of helping consumers charge everything, faster. Today, Anker is the global leader in consumer charging and one of the world’s leading suppliers of audio/video electronics, home appliances, smart security solutions, and more. Analytics Insight engaged in an exclusive interview with Gopal Jeyaraj, Head India and SAARC from Anker Innovations.

1. With what mission and what objectives was the company created? In short, tell us about your journey since the creation of the company?

While working at Google, Steven Yang built an automated system for his then-girlfriend-turned-wife, who sold women’s accessories and other products on Amazon as a side business. The system fixed inventory, logistics, fulfillment and sales tracking and started processing 300 orders per day. Sensing the opportunity, he moved to Shenzhen and started Anker by combining his Google earnings and a deposit from his mother. Our mission is “Empowering Smarter Lives” and our goal is “Bring Smartness to every home”.

2. What are your growth plans for the next 12 months?

We have aggressive plans for the Indian markets, where we aim to double our sales volumes over the next two years. We consider our channel partners to be an essential element of our growth, as they contribute to brand awareness at the right touchpoints and build a strong brand image. This is where we will drive as one team with the same ambition and vision. We plan to accelerate to be in a minimum of 1,500 consumer-facing partner stores over the next 12 months offline and grow our market share online. The company will announce its most anticipated flagship Liberty 3 Pro by next month, followed by other launches, namely Life Note 3i and Life Dot 3i, and new entrants with Eufy and Anker Works.

3. What industries are you currently focusing on? And what is your go-to-market strategy for the same?

We have four brands under Anker Innovations, namely Anker (in the charging category), Soundcore (in the audio category), Eufy (in the home appliance category) and Nebula (in the portable projector category) and we focus heavily on each category. We have different distribution partners who are strong in the specific category which helps us in raising awareness of GT M.

4. What are some of the challenges facing the industry today?

No other industry is undergoing as much change as electronics. At an alarming rate, new technologies are becoming available. Electronics manufacturers must be able to stay current to remain competitive in the electronics industry. Some of the constraints include shorter product cycles, service and warranty management, and price competition with competitors.

5. How is robotics evolving today in the industry as a whole? What are the most important trends you see emerging around the world?

The lockdown has pushed demand for household vacuum cleaners, robot cleaners and more. We see a lot of exploration in the spaces and strong adoption among the target audience. The robot cleaning market is expected to grow with a CAGR of 18% by 2025. Additionally, the current trend of increasing number of nuclear families is creating a positive outlook in the market. These robots are designed to meet the needs of the modern nuclear family, eliminating dependence on housekeepers and reducing human efforts to maintain the home. Overall, Asia-Pacific is expected to register the highest growth over the forecast period.

6. What is your biggest USP that differentiates the company from its competitors?

Everything is built around product quality, which is our first priority. We are a product-driven company that has resulted in over 1470 patents. Our Anker and Soundcore devices offer an industry-leading 18-month warranty. Power IQ, Bass Up, Hear ID, ACAA, PartyCast and other proprietary technologies underscore the brand’s commitment to the latest technology and improving user experience.
