Here’s what Cottonseed Apparel has to offer in Frankfurt

When you’re running a successful clothing store in a northern Michigan resort town, what do you do for an encore? If you’re Laurenn Rudd and Lizzie Gray, you start over.

Rudd and Gray, longtime managers of the Glen Arbor store, bought the operation from Diana and Marc Oberschulte in May 2021. They almost immediately set about expanding their horizons.

“We always talked about another place,” Gray said.

Like its namesake operation in Glen Arbor, the Cottonseed in Frankfort offers dresses, tops, pants, skirts and accessories, like jewelry and wallets. Unlike its predecessors, it also offers men’s items.

“It’s always been demanded of Glen Arbor,” Gray said, so they opted to try the concept first in the new location.

So far, the results have been positive.

“These are the same brands and a few others for Frankfurt that we are passionate about. We stick to what we’re known for: natural fabrics like linen and cotton and soft, comfortable styles.

“We have a new sweatshirt brand that we love, Wanakome,” Gray continued. “They are very soft, very, very well made – beyond quality.”

It must be. Gray, Rudd and the staff members all bought the shirts themselves.

The Cottonseed is located at 417 Main Street. It is open daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; later this summer, it will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
