Orange basketball fans got their first taste of the men’s and women’s basketball teams Friday night at the JMA Wireless Dome for ‘Orange Tip-Off’.

Otto and the Syracuse Spirit team also participated in the event and “Voice of the Orange” Matt Park served as master of ceremonies.

The event started with the head coaches Jim Boeheim and Felisha Legette-Jack interviews where they addressed fans and both thanked Orange Nation for the support.

Shooting challenge (women’s basketball)
Teams of three were tasked with making a lay-up, a free throw, a three-point shot and a half-court. First year guard Kennedi Perkins raised his team from Olivia Owens and Daisha Fair to victory when she hit the half court shot.

Three-Point Mixed Contest
The blue team, made up of Teisha Hyman, strong asia, Justin Taylor and Chris Bunch beat the Orange team (Joseph Girard III, Symir Torrence, Georgia Woolley and Dariauna Lewis) behind a 12-for-15 performance by Bunch.

Dunk contest (men’s basketball)

Pierre Carey, benny williams, Judah Mintz and Quadir Copeland put on a show at the dunk contest. Williams won the contest, but the highlight was when Copeland was helped by IMPACT men’s basketball teammate Mason Campbell, who bounced a pass to him in the paint. The team celebrated by lifting Mason onto their shoulders in celebration.

Fan Challenge
Syracuse student RJ Joshi won the grand prize after hitting a layup, free throw, three-point shot and a half-court. Joshi received a Syracuse hat for the layup, an APEX gift card for the free throw and a pair of Nike sneakers for the three-point shot. Both teams swarmed it in celebration after draining a half-court shot to drive home a 55-inch TV.

The women’s team played two 10-minute halves, followed by the men’s team who played their blue vs. orange match in the same format.

The evening ended with the student-athletes having selfie stations with fans in the backcourt.
