Katie Holmes proved her penchant for effortlessly eclectic style in New York City this week.
The ‘Dawson’s Creek’ star was spotted strolling Manhattan on Tuesday afternoon wearing black jeans with an oversized white button-up shirt. The essentials of the wardrobe featured an oversized fit and were covered in thin pink stripes; naturally, Holmes made it his own by tucking it asymmetrically into his belt and unbuttoning the cuffs. The effortless duo was completed with silver hoop earrings and a nose ring.
Rounding out Holmes’ look is Kate Spade’s $398 Manhattan Woven Tote, featuring a multi-coloured stripe palette of yellow, blue, white, orange and olive green fabric trimmed in brown leather. Holmes has been a frequent supporter and lifelong fan of the brand over the years, always owning his first Spade bag and attending brand presentations each season.
Finishing off the “Batman” actress’ ensemble was a pair of pointed sneakers. However, the style has acquired a retro touch thanks to curved brown rubber soles with thin white outsoles. Its black paneled uppers, made up of suede and quilted fabric, included a lace-up shape with almond-shaped toes – instantly reminiscent of ’80s athletic shoes. Holmes’ pair simplified their jeans to create a silhouette longer, while adding a truly effortless look to her entire outfit.
Retro trainers like these from Holmes lend a nostalgic and sporty boost to any outfit, thanks to their curved uppers reminiscent of the 70s and 80s. Styles with similar silhouettes have recently emerged from a range of brands, including Loewe, Rag & Bone and New Balance.
Holmes is best known for her classic style for all women, often re-wearing beloved pieces all year round. As for shoes, she keeps her classic selections with Veja and Adidas sneakers, Gucci loafers and Bottega Veneta mules. Beyond her off-duty pointy shoes, Holmes’ experience in the fashion industry has also earned her the title of Olay brand ambassador. Previously, she was the face of Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, Miu Miu and Ann Taylor. Additionally, Holmes was co-founder of the fashion line Holmes & Yang, launched with her then stylist Jeanne Yang, from 2011 to 2014.
