Kim Kardashian Used a Brilliant $20 Amazon for Her Oscar’s Sleek Pony

While this year’s Oscars had plenty of memorable onstage moments, some of last night’s best events seemed to take place offstage. Missed the live TV event? Quickly scroll through your social media feed and you’ll quickly see all the glitz and glamor that some of Hollywood’s best had to offer. One look in particular that everyone is obsessed with? Kim Kardashian’s ensemble at the annual vanity lounge Oscars after party.

The SKIMS founder wore a breathtaking neon blue bodycon Balenciaga dress with a train on the red carpet. As for accessories, she finished the look with a pair of small silver sunglasses, sparkly earrings and black heeled boots. To help put it all together, Kim leveraged her signature style — a sleek, slicked-back ponytail courtesy of the celebrity hairstylist and Global Creative Director of Color Wow. Chris Appleton. If you’ve never heard of the celeb-approved brand (Jennifer Lopez is a fan, too!), it’s actually very affordable: Almost every product used on Kim’s hair last night was under $30.

And it gets even better. Appleton graciously shared her step-by-step guide to achieving the slicked back pony of our dreams. If you want to get the Kardashian look at home, here’s what you’ll need:

First, Appleton applied Color Wow One Minute Transformation ($24, Amazon) in Kardashian’s hair to eliminate frizz. Next, he parted a triangle section of hair from temple to temple to pull it away from the face. After that, he used Tangle Teezer’s Ultimate Styler ($14, Amazon) brush to straighten her hair into a ponytail. (Pro tip: For perfect placement, he recommends following the eye line.)

Next, you’ll want to apply Color Wow Pop + Lock Frizz Control and Glossing Serum ($20, Amazon) directly onto a detangling brush—Chris used Tangle Teezer’s Ultimate Detangler ($14, Amazon) brush for a stylish AF look. Basically, this disperses the serum evenly through the pony and will give your style that silky, almost wet finish to the hair.

Finally, set everything in place with a spritz of Shine Spray from Color Wow ($29, Sephora) to your hair. For the finishing touch, Chris sprayed Kim’s hairline with Color Wow’s Root Cover-Up ($34, Amazon) to volumize hair, then tame baby hairs with Tangle Teezer’s Ultimate Styler Brush ($16, Ultra).
