NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The Carleton College girls’ cross country team finished second at the MIAC Cross Country Championships as the Knights had four All-MIAC performers and two more who earned honorable mention at the conference.
Carleton had won the MIAC Championships in 2017, 2018 and 2019. MIAC did not host a Cross Country Championship competition in the 2020-21 academic year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Among the top 15 players in Carleton — which is ranked No. 22 nationally — that day, the Knights had just two juniors with five sophomores and eight freshmen. The team finished with 43 points, behind the No. 23 from St. Olaf College (37 points). Gustavus Adolphus College (97 points), Bethel University (123) and Saint Benedict (127) round out the top five.
Clara mayfield (Jr./Manhattan, Kan./Manhattan) was the individual finalist, crossing the line at 9:39 p.m. Helene Croix (So./Nederland, Colo./Nederland) finished fourth with a time of 23: 02.0 while Libby rowland (Fy./Tulsa, Okla./Holland Hall) also entered the top 10 with a time of 23: 21.3 which was good for ninth place.
Phoebe ward (So./Dobbs Ferry, NY / Dobbs Ferry) was the other All-MIAC runner for the Knights, taking 11th place at 23:24.4. Marie Blanchard (So./Grinnell, Iowa / Grinnell) and Sophie mcmanus (Fy./McCall, Idaho / McCall-Donnelly) earned an honorable mention of all conferences finishing 17th and 20th respectively, with times of 23: 35.8 and 23: 43.9.
Coming for the Knights
Carleton will host the annual Great Karhu Shoe Race on Thursday, November 4th. The team will then prepare for the NCAA North Region Championships to be held Nov. 13 in Colfax, Wisconsin.
