Finnish design house Marimekko and adidas, a global leader in the sporting goods industry, come together for a new limited-edition collaborative collection. The Fall/Winter 2022 collection features unique prints designed by two Finnish Marimekko designers: Maija Isola and Annika Rimala. Maija Isola prints are inspired by a series of patterns called Ihminen, based on photographs of female body silhouettes.

The capsule fuses adidas performance technologies with a palette of distinct and expressive prints attributed to different sports; GABRIEL for running, JOKERI for sportswear, and JENKKA and TUNDRA for training pieces. As in previous collections, the last drop embodies Marimekko and adidas’ shared commitment to consciously crafted materials, with key pieces in the collection made in part with recycled materials and pieces made in part with Parley Ocean Plastic, one of the innovations that represents adidas’ commitment to help end plastic waste.

“We are incredibly thrilled to unveil our fourth limited edition collaboration collection with adidas. our colorful art of printmaking. Marimekko’s bold prints are a perfect match for adidas’ innovative and boundary-pushing sportswear. This collection is an ode to women and how they move in the world, with prints as fresh today as when they were created five decades ago,” says Rebekka Bay, Creative Director at Marimekko.

“In our ongoing quest to make sport a space for everyone, we are thrilled to unveil a collection that is a true celebration of the female form. We understand that movement takes many forms, so we wanted to make sure the pieces on this list cater to the different sports our community enjoys – from running to dancing – while tailoring the pieces to their specific needs. We hope this latest collection will offer something for anyone who appreciates the vitality brought by sport and movement, while adding a touch of the collaboration’s assertive style,” said Aimee Arana, adidas Global, Senior Vice President, Sportswear & Training.

The latest adidas x Marimekko collection will be available from July on and at selected adidas stores and retailers worldwide.

Limited edition brand collaborations increase the international awareness of the Marimekko brand and thus support Marimekko’s international growth strategy. Additionally, brand collaboration collections typically generate licensing revenue for Marimekko. Licensing revenue from the collaboration with adidas was recognized as revenue for Marimekko in the EMEA region in the first quarters of 2021 and 2022.
