TEMPE, Ariz. — In preparation for the season and to introduce the team to fans, Sun Devil Volleyball is hosting its annual Maroon and Gold Scrimmage game this Saturday at 11 a.m. MST at Desert Financial Arena.
The event is free to the public and will also be streamed live. For fans in attendance, parking is free in lot 59 and a clear bag policy will be enforced.
During the scrimmage, ASU will field two teams to compete against each other. The scrimmage will see the student-athletes switch teams as head coach Sanja Tomasevic and its staff mix up the queues. Throughout the fray, second year Megan Reilly will be the MC and interact with the crowd. After the event, there will be a live Q&A with Tomasevic and the team.
Team 2022 is an experienced group looking to make some noise. Arizona State graduated just one senior last year, firing eight Sun Devils who started a game. With two grad students, three seniors and six juniors, as well as a talented group of underclassmen, the team is more mature and ready to tackle a tough schedule.
This season, ASU will face 10 NCAA tournament teams: four non-conference and six Pac-12. Eight of the 10 teams won at least one game in the tournament, including three in the Sweet Sixteen and one (Georgia Tech) in the Elite Eight. Eight of those teams are ranked in the AVCA preseason coaches poll, including two in the top 10: No. 8 Washington and No. 9 Georgia Tech. After opening the season at home with the Webb-Burbridge Classic, the Sun Devils will be on the road for the next five weeks, embracing the road warrior mentality.
