In case you missed it, there was a wedding at the White House this weekend. Naomi Biden, President Joe Biden’s eldest child little girlwas married on the South Lawn of the White House on Saturday, November 19. Throughout the day, Naomi wore looks that were a little nod to her grandparents, which was fitting given the location of the wedding.
Naomi wore a long-sleeved dress with a custom-made lace overlay by Ralph Lauren. Lauren is a reference for politicians – President Biden wore a suit by the American fashion designer for his inauguration in 2021, and Hillary Clinton wore several of Lauren’s pantsuits during her 2016 presidential campaign. Naomi’s groom, Peter Neal , also wore Ralph Lauren. By Peoplethe bride paired the dress with jewelry from Tiffany & Co.
The question is, how did Ralph Lauren have time to do all of this after designing Jennifer Lopez’s three wedding dresses? We may never know.
For the reception, Naomi changed into an ivory strapless dress by one of her New York-based “Nana” Jill Biden’s favorite designers Alexandra O’Neill by Markarian, by Everyday women’s clothing. On the day of President Biden’s inauguration, the the first lady wore a personalized blue Markarian coat dress.
At her Friday rehearsal dinner, however, Naomi’s look was totally his. The first granddaughter, who intern at Tom Ford while in college, worked with wedding dress designer Danielle Frankel on a distinct look with four (!) pieces, including a cape.
In an interview with The New York Times, Frankel reflected on the importance of the rehearsal look: “It’s an introduction to the person wearing the outfit and reflecting who they are,” she said. “It’s a great time to have fun because you’re not doing the actual ceremony; it is rather a repetition. You can play with the trends more and there is a feeling of ease and comfort because you are not sitting in your wedding dress.
Jill Biden shared a photo from Naomi’s wedding on her Instagram grid with the caption: “Congratulations Naomi and Peter! We love you.”
