The New Balance 1080 has been one of the best-selling running shoes of the past decade, and the v12 edition only endorses how the evolution of this shoe continues to deliver results for modern runners.

The New Balance 1080 v12 is a classic training shoe that deserves a place in every runner’s shoe closet. Okay, the “shoe closet” may be a fantasy, but New Balance’s 1080 is a style every runner should at least try on their next visit to their local running store.

What’s new

A few testers noted that the New Balance 1080 v12 was about half a size larger than the previous edition. It’s noticeably roomier in the toe area and longer. If you’re on the size limit, you might want to consider a half size down.

The Fresh Foam X midsole is still going strong and is one of the main advantages of the 1080. Cushioned yet springy, this makes the shoe comfortable for long runs and springy enough for short and sharp ones.

Another small but noticeable update in this version is the heel collar. The previous edition had a heel flare that just didn’t sit on this reviewer’s foot; it almost felt like I was about to slip out of the shoe. But that was replaced, and now you don’t even notice the heel collar, which is the best of times.

When you open the box, you see a green leaf icon hanging from a tag. This is part of New Balance’s green leaf standard, which means the the upper is made of at least 50% recycled content, and at least one midsole/outsole material contains at least 3% bio-based content or 5% recycled content. Start looking for this label on all New Balance footwear and apparel as a benchmark for what is produced more sustainably.

The 1080 v12 is an all-around running shoe and it’s a must-have daily trainer for logging base miles and saving leg time. Cushioning is on point with the Fresh Foam X midsole and provides soothing comfort for the feet thanks to the flexibility of the Hypoknit upper.

The New Balance 1080 v12 is the shoe you’ll keep looking for as a company on an enlightening run or checking out some mile markers for your next running goal. It’s comfortable, stretchy, cool and flexible – just be sure to try on the best size for your foot.

From our wear tester

Tired feet everywhere, we implore you to try a pair of New Balance 1080 for size. It’s ararguably one of the most comfortable road sneakers available today, with a comfortable woven upper that molds to the foot while maintaining breathability. Even if it doesn’t look like it, the toe of the shoe is very wide, which leaves plenty of room for your toes. And the foam midsole provides springy cushion without feeling bulky.

All in all, a great companion for the many miles ahead.
