Puerto Rican model is Victoria’s Secret’s first with Down syndrome


Puerto Rican model Sofía Jirau is the first Victoria’s Secret model with Down syndrome, according to at USA Today.

Jirau joins 17 other women in the company’s new underwear line and campaign, Love Cloud Collection. The 24-year-old thanked Victoria’s Secret for seeing her as a “limitless” model.

“One day I dreamed about it, I worked on it and today it’s a dream come true,” she wrote. in an Instagram post in Spanish.

“I can finally tell you my big secret,” she wrote. “I’m the first Victoria’s Secret model with Down syndrome!”

The Love Cloud collection marks the first campaign under new creative director, Raúl Martinez, who joined in January. The project also comes months after the company replaced its signature “Angels” with new models, USA Today reported, including actress Priyanka Chopra Jonas, soccer star Megan Rapinoe and LGBTQ model Valentina Sampaio, the first transgender model to be featured in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.

Jirau debuted at New York Fashion Week in 2020 and has been featured in People, Univision and Vogue Mexico. She also launched an online store offering clothing and accessories. Named “Alavett”, the shop is based on his favorite colloquial phrase in Puerto Rico which means “I love it”.

“Love Cloud Collection is a major moment in the evolution of the brand,” Martinez said. in a report.

“From the cast of incredible women who bring the collection to life, to the incredible inclusive spirit on set, this campaign is an important part of the new Victoria’s Secret normal we are creating,” he said.

The new collection, focused on everyday comfort, debuted in stores and online on Thursday. The soft fabric is meant to be “light as a cloud” and comes in sizes 32A-40DDD or XS-XXL.

Jirau said the campaign shines a light on women who reject the limits placed on them by others.
