Ruth L. (Sweeley) Luse, 79, of Milesburg, died on Monday, December 27, 2021 at State College’s Mount Nittany Medical Center.
Born November 22, 1942 on Spring Mills Farm, she was the daughter of the late Theodore and Mildred (Bailey) Sweeley. She married Bruce D. Luse, who predeceased her in December 2007.
Ruth graduated from Penns Valley High School in 1960. She retired as a janitorial foreman at the physical office plant at Penn State University after more than 25 years of service. She also served two terms as a Central County Jury Commissioner.
Ruth has been a very active member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Center Hall for many years. She was a member of Logan Grange # 109, Democratic Women, Women of ELCA, Red Hat Society, PARSE, OLLI and a former royal matron of the Juniata Valley Court No 121 Order of the Amaranth.
She loved his politics, always ready to hand out voter registration cards to anyone not registered to vote and winning the title “Center County Democrat of the Year” in 2015.
She had a good sense of humor and fun doing little things like going through car washes or forgetting to hand over an ink pen she might have picked up along the way. She was strong-willed and outspoken. Those who knew her adored her.
Ruth is survived by two sons, David Luse (Annette) of Frenchville and Raymond Luse of Lewistown; two daughters, Theresa McDaniel (John) of Bellefonte and Tammy Barger (Jerry) of Summerville; eight grandchildren, Erin Lucas (Jason) of Snow Shoe, Nikki Campbell (Brandon) of North East, Maryland, Samantha Hendershot (Toby) of Milesburg, Joshua Luse of Snow Shoe, George Ensminger of Atlanta, Samantha Ensminger of Portsmouth, Goes. , Caitlynn Barger of DuBois, and Levi Barger of Shippenville; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Alice Bloom of Lancaster and Anna Holderman of Bellefonte; and many nephews, nieces and friends.
Along with her parents and husband, Ruth was predeceased by her grandson, Dakota Evans in September 2016 and four siblings, Glen Sweeley, William Sweeley, Fred Sweeley and Betty Horner.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2021 from 10 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. at Daughenbaugh Funeral Home, Inc., Center Hall. An amaranth funeral service will be held at 11:45 am with funeral services immediately following with Reverend Rebecca Horn officiating. Ruth will be buried privately in the Reformed Lutheran Cemetery at Center Hall.
