SLU drops 73-71 Heartbreaker in Utah state

HAMMOND, Louisiana – Kaylin Randhawa hit the winning trio with three seconds left to help Utah State beat the University of Southeast Louisiana to a 73-71 victory in non-conference women’s basketball action on Saturday after- noon at the University Center.

The Lady Lions (2-4) led throughout the game, but the visiting Aggies (3-3) completed the comeback with 13 three-pointers.

Hailey Giaratano led South East with 23 points, while Caitlyn williams achieved a double-double for SLU with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Alexis Horne and Cierria Cunningham each distributed four assists, while Horne also finished with three interceptions, the team’s top.

Shyla Latone led USU with 23 points, while Randhawa finished with 18 points in the contest. Adryana Quezada led the Aggies with seven rebounds, while Faith Brantley distributed seven assists.

Southeastern led by up to 12 points in the second half, but Latona’s shooting performance kept the Aggies in the game. With the game tied, 70-70, Giaratano fouled and went to the line with 9.4 seconds left.

Giaratano split a pair on the board and USU had one last chance. Brantley pushed the ball into the frontcourt and found a wide-open Randhawa for a corner three to give the Aggies their first lead since the opening period began.

Southeastern had one last chance, but Cunningham’s shot well over halfway failed. It was the second straight loss in a row for the Lady Lions, who lost a 54-52 decision to UL Lafayette on Wednesday.

Southeastern will play its next two road games. The trip begins Wednesday with a game at 6:30 p.m. at the TCU. Wednesday’s contest in Fort Worth, Texas can be seen on ESPN +.
