Tanger Outlets Savannah sees bigger crowds this Black Friday

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – The Christmas tree is standing, lights are hanging, and shopping bags are filled to the brim at Tanger Outlets Savannah.

It’s Black Friday, one of the biggest retail days of the year and the official start of the holiday shopping season.

Tanger Outlets Savannah’s general manager told News 3 that this year’s crowd was bigger than last Black Friday, and even the year before. Sale-hungry shoppers flocked to sporting goods, womenswear and teenage stores.

“I think this year there are a lot of buyers shopping early,” said General Manager LaDonna Shamlou. “They actually started at the start of this week so we’ve really had a spectacular week. It’s a big part of our business and a big part of our holiday shopping season.

Shamlou said sales were up this year, a trend she hopes to continue until the end of the year. Shoppers who brave the long lines are happy to return in person, after many chose to stay home last year due to COVID.

“It’s cool, it’s really cool,” said customer Beverley Beach. “I have my mask. I just took it off for a few minutes, but I kept wearing my mask.

It’s not just Black Friday, but the whole weekend that Shamlou says draws the crowds. Even though stores are seeing more shoppers and more money, they are still struggling with issues caused by the pandemic.

“Staffing has been a challenge, although most of our stores have done a great job on staffing,” Shamlou said. “And order early, I mean the supply chain you hear a lot about. We have already rented tons of storage space from our stores to get some extra merchandise early on.
