Medway Park hosted the Kent FA Women’s Futsal Festival last Saturday.
Eight teams took part in the tournament, a day before England’s Women’s Euro 2022 triumph.
Inspired by the Lionesses and building on the legacy of the summer tournament, Kent FA are on a mission to encourage more women to take part in futsal – a fast-paced game of football primarily played indoors.
Teams from across the county participated, with a mix of experienced and newly formed teams. The purpose of the friendly tournament was to have fun, be respectful and encourage others.
The teams were split into two groups, with London Fire Brigade and Faversham Strike Force winning in their groups. Other participating clubs were Anchorians, Hawkinge Foxes, Ramsgate and Canterbury Old Bags.
Catherine Bradley, Kent Futsal League and Event Coordinator, said: “The festival was fast-paced and competitive, with every player and team playing to enjoy. It was great to see the players learn more about the National Futsal League thanks to Emma Brown, who has played for both the National Futsal League and the England Deaf Futsal National Team.
“I really hope more teams can join the Kent Women’s Futsal League so we can grow the game in Kent and the South East.”
Rebecca Moore, Kent FA Football Development Manager (Women & Girls), echoed those words saying: “The festival was so much fun and it was so inspiring to see so many women involved in a format different football, and for some teams it was their first experience of futsal.
“Having Emma Brown with us for the occasion made it even more special.”
